Fifty-seven parish churches are known to have stood within
the walls of medieval Norwich. Despite damages and losses,
thirty-one of them remain standing today and are the greatest
concentration of urban medieval churches north of the Alps.
These churches are the embodiment of centuries of change
- tangible evidence of the developing historry of the city's
architecture and community from the Middle Ages to the present. |

THE CATHEDRAL OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST (sjbcathedral.org;uk) |
This great church was built as the result of the inspiration
and generosity of Henry Fitzalan Howard, 15th Duke of Norfolk.
It was designed by George Gilbert Scott Junior, a member
of the illustrious Victorian family of architects responsible
for so many wonderful examples of architectural heritage
in England... Built in the early English gothic style, St
John's, as it is known locally represents one of the best
examples of the Victorian Gothic revival. It was completed
in 1910 and for the first seven decades of its life was
the parish church for the Catholics of Norwich. In 1976,
with the creation of the Diocese of East Anglia, it was
elevated to the Cathedral Church of the new diocese, the
Mother Church of Catholics in Norfolk, Sulfolk, Cambridge
and Peterborough. |

NORWICH CATHEDRAL |
The Cathedral has stood for over 900 years as a Christian
presence in the heart of Norfolk. It is a place of public
worship and private prayer, of hospitality and education.
The journey begins in the centre of the Nave (from the Latin
navis, ship). |

The Nave represented the earthly creation. The carved
bosses of the vault tell the story of earth's creation,
our redemption and Gods plan for eternity. |

The Cloister |
This was the passageway that linked the different parts
of the monastery. The monks would use the Cloister to go
to the Church for worship and prayer, to the Chapter House
for meetings, to the Refectory for meals, to the Library
to study... |

Colman's is a household name and iconic heritage brand.
Our history dates back to 1814 when Jerermiah Colman, a
flour miller, took over a mustard manufacturing business
south of Norwich. In 1823 he established J & J Colman
with his adopted nephew James. best known for mustard, the
company also made flour, starch and cornflour. |

James' son Jeremiah James Colman later took over the company
which moved to its present location at Carrow, Norwich.
He was a visionary and his ideas on employment and social
welfare were years ahead of his time. He built a subsidised
school for his employees' children and employed one of the
very first industrial nurses, to help sick employees. |
